German tuner Novitec has rolled out quite a few upgrades for the Maserati MC20 Cielo, a carbon-tubbed supercar that – peculiarly – weighs more than the aluminum-intensive Ferrari 296 GTS. The list starts with a power-optimized exhaust system available in stainless steel, Inconel, or gold-plated Inconel for peeps with very questionable tastes.
The pictured vehicle further sweetens the deal with sport cats, OPF replacement pipes, naked carbon-fiber exhaust finishers, a set of lowering springs that are compatible with the factory lift system, aluminum spacers, and look-at-me Vossen forged wheels. The wheel design is dubbed NF11. They’re designed for sticky tires measuring 20 by 9.5 inches and 12.0 by 21 inches, respectively.Stetten-based Novitec further sweetens the deal with a number of carbon-fiber goodies, beginning with front attachments and front lid inserts. The carbon-fiber mod to have is the ducktail rear spoiler, which definitely looks the part on this Mazzer.Of course, Novitec is much obliged to fulfill individual requests. But alas, pricing details haven’t been offered. Considering that a well-equipped MC20 Cielo exceeds the 300,000-euro mark in Germany, which is around $325,000 at current exchange rates, the Novitec mods aren’t cheap.Looking at the glass half full, MC20 and MC20 Cielo owners who intend to squeeze out a bit more oomph from the mid-mounted V6 should consider the Bavarian tuner. The aforementioned exhaust, OPF replacement pipes, and sport cats boost Maserati’s 3.0-liter engine to 523 kW and 818 Nm of torque, as in 701 ponies and 603 pound-feet.Photo: Novitec
Novitec quotes 2.8 seconds from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour), which means approximately 2.6 seconds from zero to 60 miles per hour (97 kilometers per hour). Top speed? That would be over 325 kilometers per hour (202 miles per hour) as opposed to the Italian automaker’s rating of 320-plus kilometers per hour (199 mph).Speaking of stock numbers, Maserati claims 463 kW (621 horsepower) and 730 Nm (538 pound-feet) fully stock. Not bad for a sixer with a displacement of 3.0 liters, but alas, not good enough for Maserati to better the narrow-angle V6 of the Ferrari 296.The 120-degree sixer in the Fezza is good for a staggering 488 kW or 654 horsepower on its own, whereas the YASA axial flux motor assists the internal combustion engine for a total of 610 kW or 819 horsepower. Insane numbers, indeed. Maserati didn’t bother developing a plug-in hybrid setup for the MC20, but a zero-emission powertrain that comprises three motors will be launched in 2025.Maserati has indirectly previewed the MC20 Folgore through Alfa Romeo, whose limited-run 33 Stradale is available with an 800-volt system boasting a 102-kWh battery and more than 740 horsepower. Alfa Romeo claims a WLTP driving range of around 450 kilometers (280 miles).
